Radio Moscow - Soyuz 26, Day 12: December 21, 1977

Many thanks to Shortwave Radio Audio Archive contributor, Colin Anderton, who shares a series of off-air recordings, originally made on reel-to-reel tape, of Radio Moscow in the late 1970s. This is the sixth recording in this collection. Colin notes:

As a space flight nut, I have many recordings from the 1970s from Radio Moscow. They used to broadcast on the medium wave, and I used to record the news bulletins during some of the space flights.
In particular, there was a period between December 1977 and March 1978 when Soviet cosmonauts first lived aboard the Salyut 6 space station. I recorded each days' news reports on the flights, and also some additional items about them. I have some other flights as well.
I received them all on 227 metres Medium Wave at 22.00 hrs GMT each night. I was in a village called Stetchworth, near Newmarket, Suffolk, England at the time.
In fact, an announcer gives the general daily broadcast details on this first recording.
I used a similar system with all the files, that is: where any edit takes place, I have placed a one-second break to identify the spot. No other editing of any kind has been done.

A recording I made of RAI (Italy) broadcast 0054 UTC 24 June 2004 on 11.800 Mhz--when they still broadcast to North America. I recorded this broadcast using a Sony dual cassette deck connected to the line out jacks of my Grundig Satellit 800 receiver with 50 foot outdoor longwire antenna.

For your listening pleasure, The Voice of Turkey's German language service, recorded on September 10, 2017 starting at 2300 UTC on 9830 kHz. I believe this broadcast was in error--typically, the German language service is not broadcast at this time. 

This recording includes a few minutes of the VOT interval signal. 

I recorded this with a WinRadio Excalibur SDR hooked up to a large horizontal delta loop antenna.

Radio Bucharest, Romania, on Shortwave New Year's Eve 1989.  The beginning is missing.   Frequency not logged but was probably 6155 or 11830, time 0200 UTC.
The Ceausescu regime had finally been toppled and executed outside the capital Bucharest.  These were heady times; Romania was one of the last of the "Iron curtain" countries to change its Communist government.
But now Ceausescu is out and Romania has its first taste of fresh air.  This program reflects that new-found liberalisation.  The announcer at 0102 says "FREE Romania" and at 01:12 - 02:33 the American Ambassador Alan Green Jr sends greetings from President GHWB.  After that, the majority of the program is traditional music and celebrations of Romanian new year.  The two announcers are full of national pride!
There is a slight gap at 11:19 - 11:23.  Frequency and contact information are at the end of the program, 25:15.
The picture of Bucharest is the cover of a verification card from 1967 in my possession.

Radio Australia: June 20, 1987

A program from Radio Australia called Talkback recorded in June 1987. This episode looked at the story of the closing of the Lyndhurst transmitter site. The program was titled "The Lyndhurst Special". I probably recorded this around 0400 UTC or later back when the nighttime frequency of 17795 kHz put in a good signal during the summer months at night. Enjoy.

Voice of Turkey: April 17, 2017 referendum results (English then German LS)

The Voice of Turkey recorded shortly after the "official," though contested, April 16 2017 referendum. The following recording starts around 2315 UTC and begins with the end of the English language service (at marker 14:00). The German language service follows. This recording was made on 9830 kHz with a WinRadio Excalibur and sky loop antenna in North Carolina, USA.

Here is an additional recording of the referendum results broadcast by Richard Langley. This Voice of Turkey broadcast recording begins a minute or so before 22:00 UTC on a frequency of 9830 kHz. The signal originates from a 500 kW transmitter in Emirler, near Ankara, Turkey, and was beamed 310° to Europe and North America. By the way, the announced broadcast schedule at the beginning of the broadcast was incorrect while that at the end of the broadcast was correct.

The broadcast was received indoors on an Eton Grundig Field BT receiver with its built-in whip antenna in Hanwell (just outside Fredericton), New Brunswick, Canada, in AM mode with narrow-band RF filtering. Reception was generally good with some radio-teletype interference at the start of the broadcast.

Radio Romania International: 06 February 2017

This recording of Radio Romania International was made on 06 February 2017--the sixth day of massive protests to stop a Romanian law that would have eased corruption penalties.

This recording was made on 5,960 kHz starting at 0100 UTC. Receiver used was a WinRadio Excalibur with a large horizontal delta loop antenna in North Carolina.
