Here is a recording of Radio Australia's DX program called Spectrum from August 15, 1982. I believe this was recorded around 0200 UT on 17795 kHz when Australia used to come in well in the evenings here.

Some of the program highlights are:

A roundup of DX news from Bob Padula and Peter Bunn (sp) from the Australina Radio DX Club and interviews with some of the broadcasters gathered at the 1982 ANARC Convention in Montreal. Over-the-phone audio in those days was not too great so the audio is poor in this segment.

Here are two back to back episodes of Glenn Hauser's World of Radio from August 8 and September 12, 1982. WOR normally aired on WRNO on Sundays at 2330 UTC on 11.955 MHz.

Some of the program highlights are:

Part 1: An expert's view of Cuban broadcasting (Ronald Schatz), Cuban interference to US AM stations, the beginning of AM stereo in the US, new Canadian MW station proposals, SW program notes, items on Radio Quince de Septiembre and Radio Venceremos, La Voz del CID, Radio Tachira Venezuela, a new RRI station from Padang on 6812 kHz.

Myanmar Radio: October 25, 2017

Here is a nice recording of the sign-on and programming of Myanmar Radio, the National Radio Service of Myanmar, broadcasting from Yangon. I was using the Web-based SDR at the University of Twente for this recording. I have been trying for years to add this country to my shortwave logbook but it still eludes me to this day. The best I have been able to get from this station is a very weak carrier but no audio on 5.985 MHz at their sign-on time. This recording lasts about 1h 16m. This may be one of the most exotic countries still left on shortwave.

WRNO (Glenn Hauser's World of Radio): April 11 & 25, 1982

Here are two back to back episodes of Glenn Hauser's World of Radio from April 11 and April 25, 1982. WOR aired on WRNO on Sundays at 2330 UTC on 11.955 MHz plus one other time slot.

Some of the program highlights are

Part 1: Monitoring the Falkland Islands situation, Adrian Peterson presents a feature of the Falkland Islands Broadcasting Service, discussion of the close-down of Radio New Zealand's SW service (note the "Russian Woodpecker" during the RNZ segment), news about Radio CBN, Bolivian radio news, an item about the highest transmitter in the world, Radio Quince de Septiembre being jammed, illegal SW broadcasts to Cuba.

CFZM: July 28, 2019

Last night I took advantage of a clear Saturday night to head out to my favorite "dark sky" astronomy site south of Bourbon, Indiana to do some stargazing. I took my 5" telescope along with my favorite "accessory", my newly cleaned, aligned and recapped RF-2200. While waiting for sunset and darkness I recorded one hour of The Mighty KBC's Giant Jukebox and followed that up with a recording of three hours of Toronto's CFZM "Zoomer Radio and their weekly program Saturday Night Bandstand. While not SWBC, listening to Zoomer is a great way to spend a Saturday night under the stars. There is some fading and a strange growling noise which I believe was caused by having my digital recorder too close to the radio. Also some thunderstorm static can be heard from storms which popped up near the end of the recording. Both recordings were made with either the RF-2200's whip antenna for KBC or the internal ferrite swivel antenna for CFZM. Enjoy!

Here are two more back to back episodes from my collection of recordings of Shortwave Listener's Digest from Radio Canada International, this time from May 15 and July 17, 1982.

This program's highlights are: A note on the upcoming ANARC convention in Montreal (which I attended), Adrian Peterson's report on mediumwave stations heard from Southern Asia, a follow-up question regarding Larry Magne's report on antennae for apartment dwellers, Glenn Hauser's DX news. The second program's highlights are: Harold Sellers with a report on clocks used for DXing, a final note on the ANARC convention with a rundown of the planned convention schedule, part one of discussion of undersea cables and Glenn Huaser's DX news.

Super Rock KYOI: September 13, 1983

Here is a live off-air 47-minute recording of Super Rock KYOI from Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands. I likely recorded this about 1100 UTC since their signal was best in our early mornings and I believe this was on 11900 kHz.

Their programming was mostly Top 40 rock. I believe the station struggled to retain listeners and ended being sold several times. I'm not sure of the complete story of this station and if it is still the station operating on Saipan. According the the Ontario DX Association's Target Listening publication: Stations on Tinian and Saipan were destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018. Unknown when they will be rebuilt.

Radio Australia (International Report): June 15, 1993

This is the way I remember Radio Australia.

Their signal used to boom into Eastern North America in the late evenings on 17715 and 17795 kHz with a reliable signal during the summer months. This program called International Report was one of my favorites.

Unfortunately I did not record the date and time when I made this recording. But judging from the content is must have been sometime in mid-June 1993. I was probably using my Sony ICF-2001. This program was likely aired around 1200 UTC as this was announced as the Southeast and North Asia Service on 21745, 6080, or 9710 kHz.

Radio Canada International (Bonsoir Africa): January 4, 1982

This program from January 24, 1982 from my archives is from Radio Canada International which was called Bonsoir Africa. This was somewhat of a mailbag program which read listeners letters. I was fortunate to have a tape recorder running since this was a program about astronomy that was requested by me. This may be the first time I ever heard my name read on shortwave. What a thrill. Enjoy.

Radio Netherlands (Media Network): April 9, 1982

Along with RCI's Shortwave Listener's Digest, Radio Netherlands Media Network was another favorite DX program of mine. Here is a recording of an episode from April 9, 1982 which is the first recording of this program from my archive. The show highlights are: media coverage of the Falklands War from the British and Argentinian sides, Pete Meyers with a report that Radio New Zealand did not shut down, the US-Cuban media war, Richard Ginbey with African media news and John Campbell with a clandestine radio report. Audio quality is only fair for this recording. I will try not to post recordings of Media Network which are already available on Jonathan Marks' Media Network Vintage Vault website.

Here is another one of my many recordings of Shortwave Listener's Digest from Radio Canada International, this time from January 4, 1982. This program highlights are: Glenn Hauser with his Year in Review for the previous year of 1981; part 1. Larry Magne with a test report for the Panasonic RF-9000 which listed at $US 3800!!!. The program ends with Glenn Hauser's second part of his review of the previous year's highlights. Unfortunately the broadcast suffers from some adjacent-channel interference.

BBC World Service (Hong Kong relay): March 9, 1988

The BBC Hong Kong relay was usually a tough catch in the mid-west. This was recorded March 9, 1988 on 15435 kHz using my Sony ICF-2001 and random length long wire. The program appears to be a language lesson in Chinese and English. Note the strong polar flutter on the signal.

BBC World Service - New Year's Eve, Millennium Celebration: December 31, 1999

New Year's Eve has always been a good night to stay home and play radio. This recording is one I won't ever have the chance to hear live again. Here are the last four minutes and forty seconds of the GMT year 1999 and the first 25 minutes twenty seconds of the year 2000. As a tradition I would always welcome the GMT New Year by tuning in to the BBC to hear the chimes from Big Ben (which I believe were heard live).

A program from Radio Australia called Talkback recorded in June 1987. This episode looked at the story of the closing of the Lyndhurst transmitter site. The program was titled "The Lyndhurst Special". I probably recorded this around 0400 UTC or later back when the nighttime frequency of 17795 kHz put in a good signal during the summer months at night. Enjoy.

This was one of the first DX stations I logged when I got started in SWLing - DXing. Radio Tahiti was a nice music station to listen to on cold winer nights here in the northern hemisphere. Sadly this is no longer on the air, but I was happy toke this recording. I used a DX-302 with outside wire antenna. Recorded Feb. 7, 1982 on a frequency of 11.825 kHz possibly 15.170 kHz.
