Radio Macapa Brasil: Circa Late 1980s

This recording captures Radio Macapá, Brazil, clearly identified several times on the air. David discovered it on a cassette tape.

While the exact date is uncertain, David believes it could be from 1988, though he notes he was still recording to cassette into the early 2000s. The absence of CODAR interference—common on the bands starting in the early 1990s—suggests the recording likely predates that period.

Though not as unusual as some of David’s other finds, this recording remains a fine example of Brazilian shortwave broadcasting and a valuable slice of radio history. Enjoy and feel free to comment with any other details that may help date this recording.

Super Rock KYOI: September 13, 1983

Here is a live off-air 47-minute recording of Super Rock KYOI from Saipan in the Northern Marianas Islands. I likely recorded this about 1100 UTC since their signal was best in our early mornings and I believe this was on 11900 kHz.

Their programming was mostly Top 40 rock. I believe the station struggled to retain listeners and ended being sold several times. I'm not sure of the complete story of this station and if it is still the station operating on Saipan. According the the Ontario DX Association's Target Listening publication: Stations on Tinian and Saipan were destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018. Unknown when they will be rebuilt.

WRMI (Music and Mailbag Show): January 08, 2018

The following off-air recording of Radio Miami International (WRMI) was made on January 8, 2018 starting around 2330 UTC on 9955 kHz. The reciever used was a WinRadio Excalibur SDR hooked up to a large horizontal skyloop antenna in North Carolina. Enjoy:

beHAVior Night via WBCQ: November 28, 2014

For your listening pleasure: beHAVior Night, a shortwave radio show which showcases music from the first four decades of the 20th Century.

This show was recorded on Friday, November 28, 2014. While beHAVior Night is broadcast all year long via WBCQ, I’m not able to hear them easily at my home during Daylight Savings Time (DST) as the propagation path is not yet open to the south. During the winter months, however, the signal is quite strong as you will hear.
